Webinars (3rd Quarter of 2018)

Following the Workshop, coalitions can gather together subsets of their coalitions to either learn new material that addresses topics not covered during the Workshop (See Webinar Topics below). Final webinar dates not yet finalized.

These webinars are not intended as independent Webinars for general audiences, but rather as an extension of the Workshop, building on the pre-workshop content and the training provided in the workshop.  Coalitions are highly encouraged to gather the relevant stakeholders together so they can work in person on these topics. New participants can be given recordings of some of the key training lectures from the workshop to prepare for these sessions.  These will be offered in the six weeks following the workshop, and they are only for people who participated in the workshop and others they choose to invite to participate with them.

Improving MAT with Precision Medication using DNA Testing

Billions of dollars are expected to be flowing into provinces and communities to expand Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), but the long-term success rate of MAT programs is still disappointing–even if it is significantly better than programs that don’t use medication. It is well recognized that people react differently to opioids based on their genetic characteristics. It is also true that people respond differently to the medications used in MAT based on their genes. This track will look at the exciting new research showing how using DNA tests to optimize the medication plan can significantly improve the success of a MAT program. It will also explore steps that a community can take to expand the use of Precision MAT in their community.

Using Time Banking to Harness Community Resources

Time Banking (also called Time Exchanges) allows people to use their talents and time serving people in many different ways–from teaching a skill to doing a task or helping on a project–and be “paid” using hours.  As people earn hours for providing services, their account grows, and they can spend those hours to “buy” services from other people.  This is all enabled by technology, and it can become part of the community infrastructure that helps people create value, become more self-sufficient, and build relationships.  If a community has an active time bank, hours can be donated to a non-profit organization (such as the opioid coalition) that can then spend those hours to compensate people who provide needed services.  In this Webinar, you’ll learn more details about what is involved with Time Banking and will have time to get your questions answered.

Opioid Care Community — A Platform for Community Care Coordination, Referrals and Individual Success Planning

For communities to successfully address the opioid crisis, there is a need for improved collaboration to better meet the needs of people who are dealing with addiction, are in treatment, or are in recovery.  Optimal care requires the coordination of a diverse group of community stakeholders, including health departments, hospitals, schools, law enforcement, social service organizations, and recovery resources just to name a few. In most cases, these organizations rely on incomplete or outdated information and disconnected workflows. New technology can play a valuable role in supporting improved collaboration.

This Webinar introduces the Opioid Care Community (OCC), a new suite of tools built on the XCare Community platform that was designed to help communities optimize care management for a region, across all stakeholders, enabling a collaborative, consistent outreach and treatment for those with Substance Use Disorder.

Tools & Opportunities for Faith Communities

Faith communities can play many valuable roles in helping communities address substance abuse and the opioid crisis.  This Webinar will explore several practical ways the faith communities can work as part of a team and provide valuable “assists” that increase the effectiveness of many other programs without adding too much of a burden to their leaders, staff or members.

Using Meet the Need Software Platform

Meet the Need is a free platform used by communities around the nation to coordinate the efforts of faith communities, non-profit organizations and other stakeholders to address specific needs.  It can be a valuable part of the operational infrastructure to help people who might be at risk of addiction or who are in recovery.

Using InsightVision to Manage Your Coalition’s Strategy

Lead Presenter:  Bill Barberg  (Date: TBD)

InsightVision is the award-winning platform that can help communities manage all the moving parts of a comprehensive strategy to address the opioid, heroin and fentanyl crisis.  This cloud-based platform has valuable capabilities to manage information throughout the planning process, and it provides a centralized, online place for communities to manage measures, data, action plans, and much more.  It can be used across an entire province or region, and it has functionality that allows information to be shared via public-facing Websites when desired.
